How is Stubli different from Pixelfed?

Both are open-source places to share photos, without ads and with feeds in time order. The big difference is where you live.

Pixelfed

• You join a server someone else runs, a bit like choosing an email provider.
• It connects to Mastodon and the wider “fediverse”.
• It has likes, and phone apps in the app stores.

Stubli

• Your Stubli is your own website, at your own address. You pay for the hosting; Stubli itself is free.
• No likes and no counts, and your feed ends.
• Next to your photos: a journal and a guest book.
• Friends follow you from their own Stubli. It doesn’t connect to Mastodon.
• The app goes on your home screen straight from the browser, no app store needed.

Which one? Pixelfed if you want to join quickly and meet people across the fediverse. Stubli if you want a place of your own and a quieter circle of friends.
